Since 1908, the Royal Variety Charity has supported all those, both young and old, who've worked on the stage, in the wings, in front of a camera, or behind it, as well as all those who have spent their lives working in the numerous support industries dedicated to entertainment. The Charity owns and operates Brinsworth House, a not-for-profit care and nursing home in Twickenham, as well as running a nationwide grants scheme.
Thousands of people who work in the entertainment industry face desperate problems each day, even in a 'normal' year. The strong majority of performance industry workers live from 'job-to-job', from 'season-to-season' - many spending significant periods with no work at all & with little ability to make plans for their futures or to provide themselves with any security should they have an accident, or fall ill. Covid-19 has made this situation for our industry more critical than ever before.”
